Best Brownies Ever
This brownie recipe for the American Classics cookbook is our family's absolute favorite brownie recipe ever! We have made them countless times for parties, friends, family, and for thank-you gifts, and it's the treat that is gobbled up the quickest! For the holidays, I like adding candy canes for a fun twist, but you can keep them plain, add chocolate chips, add walnuts, dried fruit, &c. The brownies will go great with almost any add-ins, so go wild! I personally bake these brownies in a 9x9in pan because I like thicker, fudgey brownies, but you could also bake them in a 9x13in pan.
Makes one 9x9in pan or one 9x13in pan of brownies

Ingredients
-
5 ounces chopped semisweet chocolate - I use chocolate chips
-
2 ounces chopped unsweetened chocolate (watch my video for substitution!)
-
1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter, chopped - I like salted
-
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
-
3 large eggs
-
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
1 cup chocolate chips, optional

Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 180 degrees Celsius. Prepare a 9x9in or 9x13in baking pan with cooking spray and baking parchment.
-
In a large heat-proof bowl (glass is best), combine the semisweet chocolate, unsweetened chocolate, and butter. Melt in a double boiler (place the bowl over a pot with an inch or so of water, over medium heat) OR in the microwave, in 30 second intervals. When the mixture is evenly melted, take off the heat and stir in the cocoa powder. Then, allow the mixture to cool before adding the eggs.
-
When the chocolate is cool enough, add in the eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Stir or whisk to combine.
-
Add in the all-purpose flour. Stir until well combined. Then, add in your mix-ins. I like 1 cup of chocolate chips. Optionally, top with extra chocolate chips, crushed candy canes, and/or walnuts. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until fudge-like but set in the middle.
-
Cool fully before slicing and enjoying. To store, keep them in the fridge in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze in an airtight container for longer.
-
Enjoy the best brownies you will ever eat!
